NBA Playoff Props (5/19): Dennis Schroeder, Tertiary Terror

  • We’ve got more NBA playoff props for the second night of the NBA play-in tournament (5/19)
  • The Los Angeles Lakers are at home against the Golden State Warriors — tip-off at 10:00 PM EST
  • LA are 5-point favorites in a game with a 219-point total

We’re back dishing out more NBA playoff props after a nice win to kick things off last night.

Both games were decided by double digits; hopefully, tonight’s games – both featuring division rivals – will prove to be more competitive.

My favorite prop belongs to German-born point guard Dennis Schroeder. The eight-year veteran has helped to keep the Lakers season afloat after Lebron James and Anthony Davis combined to miss 64 games.

NBA Playoff Props (5/19)

Dennis Schroeder Over 21.5 PRA (-104 @ FanDuel)

Schroeder has played a vital role for the defending champs in what’s been a rollercoaster season.

With Lebron and AD combining to play in only 22 games after the All Star break, Schroeder was tasked with carrying the load offensively, and he certainly answered the call:

  • Pre All-Star: 14.9 PPG/4.5 APG/3.5 RPG (22.9 PRA)
  • Post All-Star: 16 PPG/7.3 APG/3.4 RPG (26.7 PRA)

The talented point guard was playing his best basketball of the season in April, piling up averages of 27.6 PRA while eclipsing tonight’s PRA total in 12 out of 15 games. Unfortunately, Schroeder was forced to miss seven of the Lakers’ last nine games due to safety protocols but ultimately returned to the lineup for the final two games.

Fortunately, Schroeder never tested positive for COVID and has declared himself 100%, which Laker coach Frank Vogel has also confirmed. He’s expected to be restriction-free and receive a full complement of minutes versus Golden State.

The Matchup

Schroeder will face a red-hot Warriors team that has won six straight games and eight of their last nine. Golden State isn’t especially well known for their defense; however, they finished the season ranked fifth in defensive efficiency.

With so much defensive attention going towards slowing down Lebron and AD tonight, Schroeder should see plenty of open looks and driving lanes on offense.

I also think this game has the makings of a potential shootout. Both teams rank in the top 15 in pace, with the Warriors checking in with the fifth most possessions per game.

Conclusion

I expect Schroeder to dictate the tempo tonight in what is a must-win game for the Lakers. I have the veteran point guard penciled in for 25 PRA and think he helps lead the LA to a victory over the Warriors.
